[CAS-BHS] CAS PARENT LEADER ROBIN ORTIZ-YOUNG MEMORIAL IS SATURDAY

Dear CAS community,



Our wonderful friend and CAS mom and beautiful spirit Robin Ortiz-Young died on Saturday evening. She was surrounded by the love of family and friends.  Robin had been given only a short time to live some seven years ago but she continued to shine her wonderful light for all this time.

 

Robin was a four star CAS mother - bringing through CAS students Jason Smith-Ortiz (01), Deborah Ortiz (03), Sean Young (03), and Edward Young (04).  Robin was an active member of the Parents of Children of African Descent (PCAD) and a mainstay in the work of the Small Schools Initiative in 2002-03.  Her wonderful husband Henry was also a regular presence at the school during all of these years.  All their children are thriving, all keep in touch with our CAS community regularly, and all were at Robin's side through these years.


Memorial services will be held this Saturday, March 18th at 1:30 p.m. in the Florence Schwimley Little Theater at Berkeley High School located on the 1900 block of Allston Way in between Milvia and MLK.  If you like, bring a potluck dish/drinks to share for the reception to follow.  Children are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the "Robin Ortiz-Young Memorial Scholarship Fund."  Checks can be made out to BHSDG/Robin Ortiz-Young Scholarship and sent to the following address:
