1978 Long version
by Robert Hedges ©

78/5/ = Robert met a Fishel employee who gave him old left-over culverts. Fishel had given him culverts earlier from what was actually a K. A. Barker construction job, but later he bought more culverts from the Barker Co. and no problem had arisen. The cost charged on the jobsite covers the loading cost, which Robert had paid in the initial Fishel/Barker situation.

78/6/ = Michelle Johnson said " I don't want any children"

78/ / = Pete Dailey said something derogatory about " stolen culverts" . Another rumor, with no remedy, no witnesses, no source.

78/7/ = Pete Dailey and Glenda had a party, a frog and turtle dinner. They were poaching frogs and turtles from the Hedges Farm and invited Robert over. Later in the evening she stuck a very large pistol up RobertŐs nose and backed him out the front door. "what do you need, an engraved invitation" This type behavior is dangerous. Robert made that the last time he visited their home nearby. Little Pat Bennett was there, and in fact had entered the Dailey residence first. He said "this doesn't suit me, I'm leaving" after that event.

78/6/ = The Grayson Co farm sale (which Wetzelberger brought to his attention), business at Powell's Dozer Service (the hands-on homosexual) and Petie Day's "comment" all occurred in this time era. Robert discussed this with Edwin Harmon at DPBChurch.
A possible violation of KRS 506.030, solicitation to commit a crime, is factually presented below. The facts seems to fit the definition of solicitation for the purposes of a homosexual contact. The violation of the sodomy statute, which then made such a contact illegal, KRS 510.100, was a class A misdemeanor, making solicitation for such an illegal contact a Class B misdemeanor. Robert was doing business with Powell's Bulldozer Service, which was at the corner of Floyd and Warnock/Arthur. They had the only idlers for his D-4 Cat dozer in town for a reasonable price. He was in their front office one day when a skinny limping salesman reached from behind his desk and said "I'm a homosexual. . . I'm married. . . . . .[rubbing Robert's stomach]" it's all right to be a homosexual and get married. Robert did business wherever necessary, but this situation presumably involved the use of the homosexual grapevine, which seems to be a negative thing. Robert later had to wonder if the married homosexuals had by some tacit understanding an immunity from unmasking or discovery. Is it understood that someone else will always be the fall guy for their perversion ? Several days later, Robert was in Grayson Co. for a farm sale. He had received notice of this sale by mail it from C.F. Wetzelberger, and he attended because he still fancied A------a, who was "down there" (in Grayson County) full time. When he attended this sale, someone in the crowd said "step right up here. I'll rub your belly for you ", and several days later in Spencer Co., Petie Day said the same thing also. This is vague and indefinite, but it seemed to indicate a connection between these several places. Robert felt compelled to make mention of the perceived possible results to the youth minister at his church since this situation was publicized to such a degree. The identical phrase used by the above perpetrator in both Grayson County and Spencer County caused Robert perceive a threat to his happiness and future. Actual orientation [is by definition the stimulus leading to the maximum arousal] of the individual is secondary to the perception held by the uninformed public. A heterosexual male is not immune from harm which the suspicion of homosexual urges can cast upon him. Robert cannot explain the rest of the factual events which may have followed the revelation that someone seemed intent upon disparaging Robert.

78/8/ = Robert bumped into Gary Conway at Babes, who told him about a real deal on Whispering Hills which is for sale, with "Buzon" (sp?) as Realtor. Robert saw an opportunity to invest in a business which could have given each person a business interest. John Deitz wanted to be a cook, so the kitchen would be his domain. Charles Wetzelberger was a professional musician, so he would have the musical task. Lee Kotheimer would handle the booze, since that was his traditional business. Ray Cook could handle the electronics which was very sophisticated at the time. Others would apply their skills as it were determined that skill was needed.

78/8/= The brunette Spencer Co secretary from the State office in Taylorsville was at Whispering Hills, with an unknown dance partner [a Dale type?] She gets plastic surgery later. She said "I know Bob Meyer" and when Robert visited later she said "It's a wonder I don't have syphilis " This was so shocking to Robert that he never returned. He did not see those who may have been exposed to syphilis as his type. Robert has grown more mature since. In 1987 a secretary formally at UnivLou working in the SAR Library in Louisville and also a dancer at the Toy Tiger told him . . . " Meyer's a ___. . . "

78/ / = Robert gave a trench for water to one of the Waterford boys for a wedding present. The trencher dug it nicely.

78/ / = Robert went to a party at Tony Johnson Esq's and he said " I thought it was Hodge and Kelley but it was Cootes and Dale." This party was a bunch of locals.

78/9/ = Mildred Dailey said "We've got to get you cut . . . " Mildred is Ed Dailey's wife, and thus is a partner to a business competitor. This was one of the original attacks.

78/10/ = Petie Day said "you don't make friends, You cultivate friendships..." He was referring to the dove hunting crowd when he said this.

78/10/ = Again during harvest season of 1978, Ralph Edwards, on his farm across the river, in the same time period said " we cut hogs here " . . . we ought to cut you . . " This remark merely implies cruelty, rather than interference, and may be the result of Robert's aversion to the brutal practice. Any other explanation will have to originate in the more knowledgeable mind of the reader/viewer.

78/10/ = Ralph Edwards " a nephew has to come in for some " Is Ralph Edwards meddling here for some ulterior motive, or just stirring up something. ? Whose nephew does he mean. Is he referring to Charles Butch Johnson, nephew of JT Johnson, or to a nephew of Robert Hedges ?

78/10/ = Mike Driscoll on various occasions and at varying locations..." I'm joining the Catholics " [later] " you'll need a tank to stay out here . . [later] I'm Charles ".[drummers stick together?] " You can't hire Cootes, he's Ed Dailey's attorney " . . . . This is just as mysterious as the statements by Ralph Edwards. Meddling and contract failure by these partners have damaged Robert. It is also a threat.

78/10/- Mrs. Simms at the Pioneer Boat Dock and Restaurant on Nolin, tells him about someone local who wears a uniform, who they believe to be undercover. Robert was passing through here on my way to Sikeston, Missouri for combine parts, and stopped for a bite to eat. He was thinking of A-----a.

78/10/ = Michelle describes Transylvania (drugs, sex, rock & roll - but so what is new about college topics) to Robert and says she wants to get married. Robert asked whom she had in mind. She becomes angry and threatens, "you might lose your crop" She had said once that if you get a bad name in the country you can never get rid of it.

78/10/31 = Waterford Cash Market at Halloween. female coowner/clerk said .." didn't you want to be a witch or a fairy or something . . . "

78/11/ = Petie Day said " the kid's grow their weed there" [the river end of Elvie Keelin's field which Petie bought at the end of 1978, after Elvie bought a grain bin from D&E Grain Systems. Alan K.(Petie) Day, formally a local Waterford farmer, has since this time gone broke and begun to work for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Frankfort. He was over- levered, and a drop in land values put him under.

78/11/ = Ralph Edwards " you took Ed's corn land . . .that's what ya done " This seems to be Ralph meddling again. In light of his failure in the matter of the grain bin, this statement mixed with his actions equals intentional failure to carry out a contract. It is unfortunate, that a case against D&E was prevented by the Hedges v Hedges case of 1981. Robert could only stretch his legal dollars so far.

78/12/18 = Mike Driscoll said. . . "I held'um while they knocked their teeth out . . . I hope you still want them . . . " soon after delivering the transport auger from the Vine Grove area. Robert walked off in a daze, wondering what had happened. Earlier in the day, Robert's windshield was knocked out by geese from the Bentley's farm as he drove by, and he had the windshield replaced at Brill Glass in Louisville.

78/11/18 = Petie Day said " I'm sorry I have to take it from you,I'm sorry I have to take it from you....."

78/12/18 = John Hedges said " well, did that back window fit your truck" . Something is wrong here.

78/12/18 = Ella C Hedges Deitz " everyone keeps trying to sell us bad meat" (This is a mean conversation with "street lingo", and I was due an explanation right at this moment). . . . " we have to get you away from her. . . she is making you look too good . . . " This is clearly a manipulative method, either to drive Robert to someone or to vent her anger. This family relationship could not survive these attacks. This happened at dinner at Ella's house.

78/12/19 or 20= Ed Harmon said "You got probation" What is he talking about.? for what, when. . . ? This really plays on the mind.

78/12/ = Leon Bentley said .. " what's this about homosexuality . . . " Robert responded with his belief that although someone had told him Mitchell didn't like girls, Robert wasn't concerned about it, and that he had paid no attention.

78/12/21= Beatrice (not Nancy, who drove herself alone both ways) said " you're ugly . . ugly . . tomorrow everyone's gonna know just how ugly you are " " we couldn't do anything about the eyes " . . . . " you scrooged around once too often Ella CHD said " well I guess this is the last time we'll be together " . This series of harangues was the beginning of the end of these relationships. There has never any explanation forthcoming from either one for these statements. This occurred after the Scrooge Play at Actors Theater, while Robert was driving Beatrice (not Nancy) and Ella back to Hikes Point. Robert was drugged either before the play at dinner or during the Scrooge play when Mrs Jewell Wetzelberger served him a drink.

78/12/21 = Ella CHD at her house, after supper on Saturday night said Ó did you go to the farm today . . . well I hope you did . . . so you're feeling sick, huh . . . I thought you would . . . well don't worry . . . it's not arsenic . . . don't bother your uncle, Andrea . . . he's sick . . . we think he's been sick for a long time . . . we're gonna show everyone how sick he really is . . . why don't you go in and lay down on the couch . . . if you hurry you can just make the hospital " This was the end of this relationship, and the basis for the belief that Ella had intended to harm Robert long before the Mental Inquest Warrant of 1982.

78/12/21 - 2:30 am . . . Robert drove to Leitchfield which was the only "hospital" on his mind. Then he turned around and drove back.

78/12/22 = The youth group at DPBChurch had a lock-in. Beth Gaba was nearing sixteen, and Robert was attracted to her. She said " Well I saw you once, I hope I see you again " after Robert had just about choked during a stupid lock- in dry food-eating contest. Tommy Jackson, the new kid, needed transport that evening, and Robert had the task. Robert's smoking cigarettes (outside) was controversial. Tommy Jackson was also a smoker, so he hung out close to Robert looking for an opportunity.

78/12/ = Ed Harmon said " I'm afraid if you do find out who you're up against you will wind up in a ditch" This implies danger lurks somewhere.

78/12/23 = Robert kept his Saturday appointment with the Dentist, Dr Brooks, at the Medical Arts bldg. after the Friday night lock-in at DPBChurch. The Brooks nurse said " do you have a card..?" you know, a special card . . . you better call that number or you might not be here tomorrow... Don't get any hair in your teeth.... when we want hair in your teeth, we'll put it there." ..." did you bite there " [Lock-in, DPBChurch] " Would you bite there? .........are you going to take any trips out of town...."

78/12/23 = Dr Brooks said, "I could have given you a fat lip " What is going on here at the dentist ? Robert is thoroughly confused about who has meddled so many places around him with inexplicable events.

78/12/23 = Next Robert went to JR Stylemaker for a haircut.........He then went to the farm, got the truck, and took a load of furniture to farm on the truck. He hauled 2 beds. Robert said " I think I'm finished" {dying}] while returning from the farm in his auto. John said "we thought you would be" Robert had no energy, and returned home, took no bath, and went to bed early. John Hedges accompanied him and said " I don't like you..." John said " looks like you didn't get enough of it...we're gonna give you some more . . . ".. also later in the drive "we want money. " Robert was ill seven times, and had chills . . .hot & cold . . . . . He was drugged and he was under attack. Ed Dailey had come over to the Camaro as Robert was about to slide out of the seat and drop over, and just smiled and beamed . "I'll get it all back now, I'll get it all back now". Ed was obviously enjoying a triumph of some sort. Robert knew that Ed was a part of this attack at the moment their eyes met. Robert was drugged, and Ed had the air of a man who had accomplished something.

78/12/24 = Robert awoke early Sunday morning feeling refreshed. The drug he was slipped had caused him to be very tired the night before, and caused him to sleep very soundly. Associate Pastor Harold Phillips guided Robert up to the married dept. when he arrived at Deer Park Baptist Church and said . . "we steered you a little to keep you from getting steered a lot." He was seated in a room with several would-be deacons. Then Bill Merit, a young deacon said " we put Carter in office and we're going to keep him there..." which is a good political thought for a Democrat, but has nothing to do with Robert. Then Mrs. [Dr. Glen] Hinson followed by Mrs. [Dr] Birkhead..." you've been using weapons all around . . . you're pearl got scratched . . . we're taking care of your pearl for you . . . yeah . . we know . . you want a pearl here at church . . . they had to stay in the shell a little longer . . . " Robert hasnŐt a clue as to what this is all about, and he left more confused than when he arrived, although he believed he was enlightened. This is probably the result of the drug he was given. He also experienced a complete absence of a sexual drive. His recent reading indicates that Prozak can do similar odd things to a subject.

Mrs. Barnes and her daughter were employees of the University of Louisville, church attendees.........?

Mrs. Birkhead is the wife of Dr. Birkhead of the UL Medical School. Did these incidents, misunderstandings, rumors, etc. spill over into UL?

Mr MacKintosh (now decd.) was Prof. Emeratus of Elec. Engineering at UL Speed Scientific School?

Mrs. Glen Hinson, wife of Dr. Hinson of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, may have caused the name Henson [of Louisville radio broadcasting fame ] to be mixed into this confusing situation due to poor condition of RH at moment in 1979.

78/12/26 = Robert went to the Wetzelbergers for lunch, and Rev Jack Morgan was introduced. He was an interesting, knowledgeable, spokesperson for the Louisville Archdiocese with a TV show. Robert enjoyed discussing infant baptism with him. Robert hadn't discovered Mensa for conversation yet.

78/12/26 = Wetzelberger said " He's after our money ". To Jack Morgan. This planted a seed of an idea of improper motive against Robert.

78/12/27 = Genevive Huffman at her Bait Hut said " you ran someone in a ditch . . .there was a big ditch " She was yelling, and this has made no sense in the intervening time. "you never should have talked about Vivian Smith . . . " [local very-butch hog farmer]

78/12/28 = Mrs. Bobby Crow from Trimble County calls Robert to dun him for the Massy Ferguson 135 tractor which John Deitz claimed to have "bought". The Crow's come and get it. Robert is out $3100.

78/12/29 = Ben McAdams said " set that tractor out in the street " as if something was wrong with it.

78/12/30 = Robert visited Billy Winburn and his wife Terry and he said "lose any good parts lately" . . ." well do you have VD" . . . In the wake of being perplexed with all of the above events, here Robert was faced with more rumors.

78/12/31 = John Stearns had a party for New Years, which JCPD Officer Dennis Dalrymple attended. Robert was still drugged when he met Dalrymple at the S&S Service Center just a few days later. Dalrymple was still talking about their party at that time. Later Robert invited Dalrymple to Spencer County, with his horses.

78/12/ = Robert reassembled the dozer with the undercarriage attached.

78/12/ = John said " they got me to give you some of it too..."
